1 set of 13 washed natural chicken bones with jute binding at the top of the bones

1 set of 13 washed and painted chicken bones with jute binding at the top of the bones

Small chicken foot, linen bags and Instruction sheet per set. Throwing cloth not included.

PROCESS:

Feet are washed in omiero, and cured to preserve integrity, as are bones. Hand painted to aged appearance.


ABOUT:

The significance of chicken feet and bones varies, from natural curios, charms, talismans and fetish objects, offerings and cleanings, to tools of divination.

Chicken feet and bones are primarily used in both Voodoo, Hoodoo, and JuJu, as charms and talismans. Bones are used in rootwork and Obi and Dilloggun as casting and divination tools. The mingling of African traditions with Native and European forms of divination has produced many variations in hoodoo practices today.

Often misrepresented by Hollywood as morbid, sinister and violent, via imagery of witch doctors and sorcerers conjuring dark magic, African and Afro-Cuban Ifa, Voodoo, Hoodoo, Palo, and Lucumi are legitimate religions practiced by millions. The root religion having been born about 10,000 years ago in West Africa, crossing the seas via slave trade, where it was syncretized with catholic saints as a way to practice and preserve the religions.

Chicken feet are associated with the African crossroads loa, and orisha variously known as Legba, or Eshu (Elegba) - said to give back fowl a powerful magical charge in their own right.
